Coral Pink Sand Dunes...

After our trip to Lake Powell, since we were passing the Coral Pink Sand Dunes, I begged Chris to stop and drive out there so I could show the kids the dunes. When I was a kid we used to go down there maybe 3 times a year and some of my best memories are from there. We would hitch up the camping trailer, the 4-wheeler trailer and an extra car for my dad and head on down there. My dad would do freelance work for the hospital in Kanab and so we would make a vacation out of it. We would consider ourselves lucky if we made it down there more than 2 times every summer. So much fun and such a beautiful place. I wanted so badly to show my kids what the dunes looked like but mostly I just wanted to wallow in some good ol' nostalgia for a little while....ohhh the memories there. My parents are amazing and were so amazing when we were little...my mom always used to tell me that when I got older and had kids of my own, I would only then know of the joy that she felt when we would go on vacations together. She said that she lived for her kids...every birthday, holiday, soccer game, smile, science experiments and whatever from the time they had Jason was all about the kids. I now know exactly how she felt and still feels today...I live for my kids. Thanks mom for teaching me what you knew how to do best...I love you!!!!

Just look at that chubby face...you wouldn't even dare think that she is small for her age.
Three of my four best accomplishments.
Kangaroo rat...infested with disease and infectious bad karma...
Grady picking up the Kangaroo rat and begging us to take it home. (Note: I picked it up first and he was only doing what his momma did...I know, bad example!)
The dunes were as beautiful as I remember but appreciate more now.

Last night my sister and I were just reminiscing about the dunes. It is UEA this weekend (or whatever it is called now) and we were both wishing we were going to the sand dunes. I absolutely LOVE it down there. I am sad that I now live so far away. We were so lucky to grow up where we did. We were so close to so many beautiful places. I would love to take my kids there at least once a year. Especially for Easter. Do you remember the Easter Egg hunts we had? Oh I just love the dunes, can't say enough good about them. They will always hold a special place in my heart (as cheesy as that sounds, it is true!). And I agree with the last comment. I couldn't bare to look at your last picture (with the pencil). I know, I know, I am a wimp!

Oh so sad that you were so close (to me in Cedar City), yet so far away! I love the dunes too... Have some good memories of so many places around this area. I don't think I could ever move very far away??? Next time you come through this way you should let me know so I can see ya' and say howdee (even if it's just to meet you at the gas station for a minute or something)! :) I'll take what I can get.
