Things I've Learned...

I've learned some things about pnemonia that I wanted to share with you...in case you ever need to know but hopefully not.

Signs and symptoms:
difficulty breathing or rapid breathing
coughing
fever
poor appetite or loss of appetite
vomiting
wheezing sounds or crackling sounds

Incubation period:
18 hours to 6 days

Contagious?
All of the bacterias and viruses that cause pnemonia are contagious but technically pnemonia is not contagious. So basically, it's contagious, but you might not go all the way to pnemonia. Jenner did not get it from Grady, his contagious period was over before she got it. She more than likely got it from her cousin, unintentionally I might add. (he has bronchitis)

Treatment:
Our doctor's told us that they pretty much always treat it as if it was a bacterial infection. Thus, using antibiotics. Antibiotics won't help a viral infection but they take the chance with antibiotics hoping for the best. Also, breathing treatments with a steroid can help. Coughing is a good thing because it loosens the fluid in the lung and helps bring it up and out.

It can take 1-2 weeks for bacterial pnemonia to clear up and up to 6 weeks for walking pnemonia to clear up. Sucks!

Remember, I am not a Doctor but these are just a few things I have learned in the past 3 weeks.
