Calling all OB nurses...or wannabes...

Does anyone know what meds are safe during the first trimester in pregnancy...you would think I would with this being my 5th but I am so confused...

Symptoms:

I have a cold and allergies
My eyes are itchy and watery
I can't sleep
I am sneezing all the time

My nose is sooooo stuffy
I have that cold "taste" in my mouth

Seriously, any and all advice would be helpful...even from you lurkers...speaking of lurkers, why don't you de-lurk yourself today and let me know who you are...sounds like fun!

So sorry you are sick. Being pregnant and sick is the worst combo ever! When you get feeling better, let me know if you want to get together.

My doctor always told me sudafed is ok although that usually makes you a little drowsy. I usually just take a half and that helps me stay more awake.
Good luck with that :(

use some of Jenner's breathe right strips. sudafed and advil I think are okay, or is it tylenol? It's been 7 years since I've been preggers.

My doctor also told me to take Sudafed, pretty much nothing else. Also, speaking of Advil/Ibuprofin...During my last pregnancy I was told ibuprofin was okay until your LAST trimester. It can reduce the amount of amniotic fluid. I was thrilled by this news because ibuprofin rocks. :)

Just be sure it's not a special Sudafed... as in, no "Sudafed Cold" or whatnot. Has to be just plain Sudafed if you absolutely HAVE to take anything (that's what my doctor and pharmacist told me). : ) Good luck! I'm sorry you're feeling miserable! Maybe you could put a cold mist humidifier in your room too?

So I have the humidifier...I have breathe rights...I even tried the saline nose spray...none of it works...and for Sudafed, safefetus.com says its a class C drug...Class A is ok and Class B is ok but C is pushing it...I always thought sudafed was ok in pregnancy but now I'm not sure...Right now I am trying Advil cold/sinus...wish me luck! It's a class B

Yuck! Sorry about the sickies!

I was also told that Sudafed and Tylenol were safe by my OB and that Advil, was NOT. Maybe these docs should get together and get their stories straight!

I have a bunch of Sudafed if you want it...

Also, when I was feeling super yucky, I went to Dr. Foote and he was able to prescribe a "safe" class B antibiotic. It was SOOO worth it! I felt much better the very next day!

Congrats on the pregnancy. It is always a pain to know which meds are safe to take. Any of the tylenol products are safe, I like the Tylenol COLD products. I would STAY away from all Ibuprofen because it has been linked to heart defects. If you want a good list of safe meds my OB has a list on his web site. Go to wwww.colwc.com and click on the obstetrics link, then click on acceptable medications. Hope this helps you out. By the way we are only about a week apart, so I feel your pain!!! We made our blog private in a rush decision, send me your email address at camirn@msn.com and I would love to invite you. Take care.

Hey Amy! I know that we'd all love to see you! I keep my Mom updated on your news (since she doesn't look at blogs very much)... where are you these days?

You can totally hate me but I am such a medicine freak that my advice is to suck it up and stick it out. I know that's not nice it's just me. i have a total phobia. Ooh I can feel the hate of other prego women who are reading this already. Sorry..just my opinion. Hope you feel better soon.

Hey sorry about being prego and sick at the same time. I was told to stay away from Sudafed type products durning the first trimester. My best advise though is to just give your Dr. a call, mine always had a printout to give me when I asked. And to answer your comment on my blog, I live about three hours northeast of Mesa/Phoenix area. We are up in the White Mountains, up here we actually get all four seasons and obviously see a lot of wildlife around here. We live in a small town even though I never thought I would do that, but I love it here!
